The Rafael Schächter Institute for Arts and Humanities at Terezín, located in the Czech Republic, is named after the organizer and conductor of the the Verdi Requiem performances in Terezín during World War II. The Institute is dedicated to perpetuating the arts and humanities as practiced by the prisoners of Terezín. Inspired by the "accidental university" at Terezín from 1941-1945, the Institute will create events each summer to replicate the prisoners' performances, lectures and forums. Annual events will typically include orchestral music, cabaret re-creations, lectures and panel discussions, and a Hall of Fame event illuminating the creativity or scholarship of a Terezín prisioner.
